In the book of Philippians, Paul wrote

“And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19)

I know that personally, I often take all the things that God has given me for granted. I have been blessed beyond measure. God has placed me in a great home with a great family. All my needs have always been met.

When I applied for the World Race I did not truly comprehend “need”. Even now, I cannot claim to fully understand what it is to be in need. But, when I was faced with the task of raising $14,000 I was quite intimidated by my need to raise that much money.

Struggling with the task before me, I prayed and asked God to meet my needs. As I prayed this, I felt insincere about what I was asking God to do. Because I had never been in true need, my faith in God to achieve such a huge goal just didn’t seem practical.

I wrestled with my weak faith, and again asked God to meet my needs and to make my prayer sincere.

Shortly after this, I was reading in the Old Testament, about the Jews returning from Babylonian captivity. They were faced with the task of rebuilding the temple. A task much greater than my $14,000. God met their needs and provided them with the means necessary to rebuild the temple, in a very unexpected way. Cyrus, the king of Persia at the time, gave money and materials to the Jews!

This display of God’s incredible power and provision amazed me! I once again prayed that God would meet my needs. But, this time God showed me that even though I could not comprehend His ways, or understand how He is able to provide for me, did not mean that He was incapable.

I pray with a renewed faith now! I am 100% certain that God will meet my needs. He has already demonstrated His incredible power to me, and I can’t wait to see how He will continue to work!
