There's so much I wish I could share about all that I have experienced here at training camp, but that would ruin the surprise for all of you future World Racers. I can say that it's best to come into training camp with zero expectations. I lucked out being so busy with packing up my life that I didn't have time to think about what it would be like and I showed up ready to just go with whatever. And it has been a wild ride.
So now that I've said to come into camp without any expectations, here are some things to expect while at training camp:
Expect this to be a time of growth, freedom, and being challenged in your relationship with God. I have thoroughly enjoyed the freedom and joy that the worship time has brought. And I've been challenged in the area of forgiveness (that's for another time though).
Expect to gain a sense of community. Up until this point, my focus toward this World Race trip has been so much about what my experience on this trip will be and how God will work through and in me. After meeting my team and seeing their passion for this trip, my focus has shifted dramatically. It's now more about how we as a team will impact the world. And it has made me that much more excited to get started on this adventure.
Expect to go with the flow. I have spent 98% of the time here having to clue what will happen next. If you like to have a plan, you will be challenged. As annoying as it is, it adds to the whole experience and will help make this a time of growth.
Finally, expect a change in perspective. I don't think I've ever felt blessed/excited about getting a whole banana with a meal. With that said – BRING SNACKS!
