Many of you probably already know about the political protesting going
on in Bangkok, some of which has turned violent. I just wanted to give
you all a quick update from my perspective.
We haven’t seen any
of the protesting because we’re living at the YWAM Thailand base which
is on the outer edges of the sprawling metropolis. However, these
protests have indeed affected us directly, because we are all supposed
to be on a plane to Africa right now. And obviously we’re not, haha! 🙂
It has been an internal struggle for me mostly because I was so
eager for the next stage of the Race and to get started with ministry
in Swaziland. The Lord is teaching me patience yet again! As we wait
here (literally here–we can’t wander too far since we don’t have
phones to communicate with in case we need to pack up and go quickly)
for the airport to reopen (it doesn’t look like that will happen any
time soon) we don’t want to waste our time. (sidenote: the journalist
in me is dying to go photograph the protests, but that’s simply not
feasible for me at the moment.)
We know that we still represent the Kingdom of God, even if we have
to “sit tight” in our little corner of the city for a little while. We
felt God leading us to use this time to pray BIG prayers for Bangkok
and Thailand and Southeast Asia, against human and sex trafficking, for
the orphaned children of Myanmar…for all the types of ministries
we’ve been a part of this past month. So as we wait for the next step
we’re looking UP to the Lord for whatever He would say to us or have us
do while we are still in Bangkok. We’ve prayed for peace and no more
bloodshed, for conviction of corrupt government hearts whomever they
may be (I am NOT claiming any names because I don’t have all the
facts), for the Spirit of the Lord to rise within the hearts of His
people in the city and for them to speak out in boldness that this city
may hear the truth.
Please join us in praying for:
~A peaceful resolution to the conflict. No more bloodshed!
~The
government of Thailand, which many say is corrupt and others say is
good. But either way they need the grace of God to overwhelm them so
they lead with their people’s best interests at heart.
~The city of Bangkok and the entire country of Thailand to fall like
Jericho that the Lord would establish HIS kingdom here! (big prayers, I
know, but that’s what God asked us to pray)
~That spirits of power, lust and greed would LEAVE this city.
~Ultimately, that Jesus’ name would be known here!!!
~And that the Racers would find a way to get to Africa. 🙂
Thanks
for reading and I encourage you to do your own reading about the
protests, because I’m not really capable of explaining it all. Here’s a
link to an introductory story from the BBC, and from there you can
browse other stories on the right-hand side.
