My Nicaraguan friend Itzel is one of the most beautiful people I’ve ever known, inside and out.
She’s 15 years old and came to know Jesus Christ as her savior just a few short months ago. Since then, he has transformed her heart, changed her life and spoken many words of love and life to her.
“Jesus gives me many kisses every day,” she told us. She has fallen in love with Him and hungers to learn more of the Bible so she can share her new heart and joy with her peers at school, on her kickball team and at youth group every Friday night in Candelaria.
As a team, Kiatera has had the opportunity to adopt Itzel as another daughter of the King. We have laughed, cried, danced, shared makeup and food, and much more with Itzel.
Psalm 45: 10-11 says “Listen, O daughter, consider and give ear: Forget your people and your father’s house. The king is enthralled by your beauty; honor him, for he is your lord.”
When her father left their family a few months ago, Itzel’s heart was horribly hurt. But she has come to know a new Father, a heavenly Father, who loves her with an everlasting love. This father will never leave or forsake Itzel, unlike her earthly father.
Now, despite the pains of her recent past, Itzel’s heart is full of love. She dearly loves her family and friends, and she longs to see them know the joy and love that she has found in Jesus Christ. Through her own teenage problems and life challenges, she has been able to share this hope with several of her friends already. As we spend more time with Itzel these next two weeks, I hope and pray that she will grow even more hungry for the truth, and more boldly proclaim it in Candelaria, her home.
“Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead,
it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle
and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight. For this is the way the holy women of the past who put their hope in God used to make themselves beautiful.” ~1 Peter 3:3-5
