Cherished
People can tell you that you are loved. They can tell you that you are valuable, unique, indispensible, CHERISHED. It is one thing to hear these words. It is quite another to actually believe them and live them out. I physically hear the words but often live the unspoken echo of my own contradictory perceptions… You are valuable [worthless], unique [dime a dozen], indispensible [useless], CHERISHED [not worthy or of value].
God says that I am cherished. I am valuable. I should not allow others to put a price on my affections or any part of me because I am invaluable. No one deserves anything more or anything less than just me; “just me” is enough.
“You are a child of the universe- no less than the trees and the stars. You have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.”
I am enough. Not my skills, my looks, or any other quantifiable trait makes me worthy. Christ dying for me made me more than adequate.
It’s so easy to blame our internal struggles our past experiences. At some point we have to realize that although our environment has an impact on us, we are ultimately responsible for our own thoughts and actions. Embracing our validity and value in Christ will help us with the struggle.
A song that has impacted my life is “Someone Worth Dying For” by Mikeschair
Some of the lyrics are as follows:
“Maybe you’re the girl thinking you’ll end up alone, praying God can you hear me?
Oh God are you listening?
Am I more than flesh and bone am I really something beautiful?
I want to believe that I’m not just some wandering soul, that you don’t see and you don’t know.
I want to believe, Jesus help me believe that I am someone worth dying for.”
We are all someone worth dying for.
Love you all,
Katie
