“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”

~Romans 12:12

Prayer is an intimate language between a father and his daughter.  In a world filled with violence and heartache how then are we able to take something so close to the heart and pour it out upon the streets of Africa?

Today three teams on my squad met at the markets to do a bit of shopping before we leave Cote d’Ivoire on Tuesday.   Lovely necklaces and colorful dresses screamed for our attention but the man with the swollen face and empty belly walked in silence.

Boldly members of my squad stepped towards this man offering him the heart of Jesus and the hands of forgiven sinners.  The intimacy of a conversation with the Savior of the world poured out of their mouths as they for a moment lavished prayers over his face and body.

In the violence of a distracting, colorful, loud, busy marketplace a small band of christians pulled Jesus closer and spoke peace into the place.  This is what prayer is about… It matters not the place or the number in the crowd.  It matters only that a soul is seeking the face of the creator.

The man left the market with antibiotics, a fully belly, and a 21 or so prayers prayed over him.  I left the market reminded who my heart loves and how remarkable our God is.

All for now through the eyes of a storyteller…
