Time in Kenya has been filled with a mixture of things. We are living with a family of 7 and working with their organization, Shekinah glory. Painting at a church and orphanage, loving on lots of children, spending time in the slums and doing door to door evangelism are the things that have been filling our time here. To be honest it was a hard transition for me to go from spending time with the prostitutes in the bars of Thailand to door to door evangelism. I saw Jesus in the bars and streets of Thailand. Spending time with the prostitutes and homeless is where Jesus would be. That is where he is. I dont see Jesus going door to door, spending 15 minutes at each home, asking each person if they knew him. I didn’t walk into this month with a defeated spirit just one that was struggling.
The first day i went out to do door to door ministry, I was tired and not feeling well. As I walked to the first mud hut this was my prayer:
Lord I have nothing. I need you to show up. I need your voice. I need you to be the one that speaks because I have no words to give. I have nothing to give. I need your spirit to fill these homes and your presence to be what encourages these people. Lord you have to be all because I have nothing.
An hour later three people committed their lives to Christ. Praise God. Today the kingdom of God was expended. Today the beauty of the kingdom was added to.
My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.
– Jesus
This month I am learning this: We are inadequate and that is our greatest strength. The Lord loves using the weak because that is where His power is made great. When we surrender it all to him that is when HIS name is made much of. What an amazing God we serve. He truly does want to carry us through it all. As I walked away from the slums I realized this IS where Jesus would be spending His time. This is where He is. He meets people where they are at. He comes to the hurting and brokenhearted.
‘ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.’ – 2 Corinthians 11:9-10
Lord lead me to your heart. That is where I want to be and that is where i want to remain.
