It’s usually immediately before or after an extra-long embrace when a loved one has me by the shoulders, looks straight into my eyes, and says, “You be safe now.”
My heart screams, “NO WAY!”

But I don’t want to be rude so my voice says something like, “I’ll try” or “You’re lucky I’m not going to Uganda because then I could bungy jump over the Nile.”
I have no intentions of being safe.
