I’m heading back to Costa Rica!
On January 5th I’ll be taking a flight back to Costa to work temporarily with Casafe Ministry. Their mission is to empower the youth of Jaco. The ministry desires youth “to grow in their spiritual walk, develop life skills and learn to live in healthy Christian community.”
Back in July, while I was on the Race, we had the opportunity to work with this ministry and different programs they facilitate for youth. We got to have a bonfire on the beach and hear their stories, we hosted a sports day, we attended Kids Club and we were served dinner cooked up by the youth! In the course of the month I got to see the passion and heart of the ministry. I heard the story of how the ministry developed. I got to witness seeing the youth laugh and enjoy time together and at Casafe. Seeing the youth beam grew an excitement to follow the future of the ministry. And now, I get to do that in person for a season!
There will be more to come, as I understand more of what the day to day will look like. But as of now I know I will be living at Casafe, and I’ll be working closely with Lisa, the founder of the ministry to support her as she continues to work away at the programs being facilitated for the youth. There will be several things to learn; including Spanish! Some of the things I’m looking forward to are: reconnecting with the youth and community, bonding with the youth as they teach me Spanish, learning more about what it looks like to run a ministry, how to evaluate services needed to equip youth and being a cheerleader for Lisa!
It will be strange to travel abroad without my 38 counterparts of Lsquad, as well as live in a foreign country for longer than a month. I appreciate prayers covering the trip down there on the 5th as well as prayer for continued peace as I go into this new season!
More updates and stories to come!
