An adventurous night told from the hungry youngsters! Told from the perspective of each team member:

Chase: “I was sleeping peacefully and there was a ginormous mouse that ran across my back. I got up and went for the brick and tore apart the room and smashed the mouse on the head.”

Carli: “it was twilight. Our story started with a foreshadow as Megan felt the mice hovering the room and our wall… Before it would make it’s attack. As the night continued the plot thickened. The mouse had it’s first victim in Chase. The scattering across his back made him get up and start the hunt. Scott followed as they quietly looked. Hearing the scatter of the hunt Megan and I got up, because the mice were hiding beneath our bed, we just laid there until Chase screamed, “it’s crawling up the bed.” Then the action began. Megan sprang magically into Katie’s cot and Scott, Chase and I started looking. Scott bailed after throwing the squeegee like a dagger as the mouse squirmed by. The room was getting intense. There were two. I had a chance to smack one and it stared me straight in the eye for an eternity, and I couldn’t do it. It saw my weakness and turned the other way to run right into a brick to the face by Chase…The second is still on the loose.. But tonight is another chance for his revenge.”

Scott: ” I was sound asleep when I heard Chase wake up with an energy to kill. I knew it was time. It was my time to help kill a creature that has been haunting us for days. As Chase and I began the search for the rat I could only feel my fear begin to grow. Then all of a sudden BAM the creature decides to reveal himself and as his beady little eyes stared deep into my soul I knew he was out for a vengeance. He was seeking revenge for the murder of his brother days before or he wanted more of the Oreo cookie he took a bite of, either way he wasn’t going down without a fight. We all began to scramble and search the room like a game of where’s Waldo until finally the little villain himself came charging at me. As I stood with the squeegee from our bathroom in my hand I began to recall not signing up for an episode of Man vs Wild rat edition. It was game time and I lost, I chucked the squeegee like a Chinese fighting star only to miss and proceed to jump up and down like a school girl. It was beautiful.

Katie: “I woke up at 11:50pm irritated that my teammates were talking so late… But that quickly changed as I heard ‘it’s on the bed.’ Frozen with terror that the mouse was so close I quickly was in awe of the entertainment before me. I saw Chase flipping things about, throwing apart Megan and Carli’s bed to get a better look. Before I knew it Megan was in with me under the mosquito net and we were rolling in laughter of our teammates jumping into action. The entire team jumped on board for keeping an eye on it. ‘Ok, ok it’s coming towards the wall.’ ‘Now it’s on the bed!!’ ‘Where did it go?’ ‘Ok, ok I see it!’ And the crash of the brick went to the ground. Carli kept carrying it around our home, not sure how to dispose it while Chase kept on the hunt for the second. I couldn’t contain the laughter of the sight that was going down; hunters on the prawl, scared victims, our humble abode torn about, and a tiny four inch mammal creating all the ruckus. Tears rolled down my face as we saw Scott’s ‘tough’ reaction. Who knew such great laughter, adrenaline and a memorable moments could begin my 24th yr.”

Megan: “so it started like at 11 when I could have sworn that a mouse kept running across my arm. After grabbing Carli and her light we figured it was the mosquito net. Still don’t know for sure. Move ahead an hour, I wake up to chase and Scott on the ground hunting. I figured they were hunting a mouse and it wasn’t near me so I rolled over to go back to sleep when chase yells “it’s climbing up the bed!” I have never moved so fast in my life. I got out of my sleeping bag liner, out of the mosquito net and into Katie’s bed under her net within like 3 seconds. We then proceeded to cry laugh at the sweet hilarity that followed. We daily live with lizards, cockroaches, all kinds of bugs but it’s the little fuzzy mouse that sends us all into a crazy panic. Let’s just say I’m thankful to be on a team with guys who kill things. To the mice: ‘we possess a certain type of skill that we have acquired over the years (days). We will find you. And we will kill you.’

Andrea: “I was awoken at 1150 last night by shrieks, yells, and things being thrown about the room. I was in a daze at first cause I had no idea what was going on. Then I heard people yelling “the mouse is on the bed! He’s on the bed!” Chase and Carli went on the hunt while Katie Megan and I watched, laugh and at times screamed. Scott attempted to be heroic by going after the one mouse but soon discovered mice are his weakness. Chase killed the one mouse with the brick that has already taken the life of another furry friend but the other little mouse got away. We have had quite the adventures with these lovely mice and we even discovered they love Oreos just like us Americans.

The Hungry Youngsters are staying strong and glad to tell the tale. Stay tuned for more to come!
