This is a phrase that is really common to my ears. Apparently it is something I said as a child a lot, and my family uses it to kind of tease me about my independence.

But I was just chatting with my mom about something fund-raising related and she used it again. And I’m really starting to think about it and what it means, and why I have been like this since a very young age. I guess I havent figured a lot out as far as the origin of the problem, but I HAVE realized how much of a negative attitude I have towards needs. Especially my own personal needs, and letting others make up for my weaknesses.

And that is what the body of Christ is for…

Ephesians 4

Romans 12

Romans 12:3-16 New International Version (NIV)

Humble Service in the Body of Christ

For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your[a] faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead,[b] do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.

Love in Action

Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. 10 Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. 11 Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. 12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. 13 Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.

14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. 16 Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position.[c] Do not be conceited.

I want to apologize to many of you for not allowing you to love me and serve me like you desire to. And to many that I have served out of pride, not love.

I’ve been judging those with needs (whether outwardly noticeable or not) that I need to meet, and holding back my needs from so many who want to see them and meet them. Needs are not negative. It is going to take me a long time to learn this.

I’m so grateful for those of you that just keep trying to love me. Thank you.
