We are now in the Dominican Republic. We have a few days of debriefing and then we head to our ministry site, where we will be camping in tents for the next 3 weeks. We will be working with an organization called H.O.P.E. Dominican Republic (hope4drnow.org), probably helping out with their church plant, as well as working with children and their families in the city dump.
It is so much poorer and more dangerous here than Puerto Rico. And I’m realizing how much of a stretch it will be physically to live in our tents and take bucket showers and work with very unclean people from the city dump. While I find it daunting and unpleasant, I’m also excited about it because I prayed to be challenged physically, to be taken out of what I’m comfortable with. So this is good. I really want to be stretched and changed and grown. I want to be fully invested in loving these people, and I don’t want any physical discomforts to lessen my willingness to embrace every moment.
God, please don’t let me stay the same.
