Dear Home,
Namaste! I’ve been missing you a lot recently. But I got the best treat last night! I was able to have a slumber party with Nicole in Kathmandu. We stayed up late with a big fat bowl of off-brand Cheerios and good conversation, which I’m about to help myself to again this morning! I cannot believe that there are less than 2 weeks left in Nepal. Time flies.
The kids have been wonderful. Little baby Millie throws up on me almost every time I hold her. It’s probably in part because I like to waltz around with her to Michael Buble, but do they not burp their babies here??! There is a group of girls around age 9 that I spend most of my time with. All the kids here are orphans except the babies. The other day we took them to the Botanical Gardens (which was much lamer than we anticipated). The little girl I tutor with HIV started sharing her story with me on the way. She started off telling me that she doesn’t like Nepal because people drink beer. But then she started explaining how her mom died when she was two and then her dad would get drunk and beat her everyday. She said she was so skinny and her dad would hit her with rocks, until one day her uncle came and brought her to this ministry. She’s 9 years old and told me that she still prays for her dad and that she thinks he might become a Christian. I was speechless at this! But she doesn’t want my words anyways; all she ever wants is to hold hands, braid my hair, and do multiplication. How can her heart still be so soft after all that?
Ok this Indian food is killing me! Most of my team has gotten sick. But I was down for the count with a fever and such for several days from food poisoning. Postive side to that…the little girls would come in every night to pray for ‘Kathryn-Sista’ and tuck me in, giving me kisses and feeling my forehead for fever. It was all I could do to choke back ‘this-is-the-cutest-thing-ever’ tears!
Other than that. Things are great, my team and ministry are great.. we are planning some adventures for the end of the month with some of my other favorites from the squad! But I won’t start getting my hopes up about that until it’s about to happen. I’m currently finishing up reading The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis, which is incredible! Convicting to my heart and challenging to my head. God’s been teaching me so much about the power of perseverance, especially after this year. Like it says in Romans 5, perseverance produces character. Funny to think that this time last year I had just finished training camp! Also, I can’t believe next month I’m in INDIA!!! That’s the whole reason why I picked this specific World Race route: India.. I’m actually going!
Well that’s all there is to share for now. If you’re up for praying for my team, please pray for health. Please also pray for our ministry, Asha Nepal. Praise God that he has rescued these women and children from so much and ask that He continues to grow them in the love that He has so clearly established already. And for myself specifically, my heart could use a Red Bull to make it through this last month and a half strong!
Over and out America!
I thank my God every time I remember you. Phil 1:3
Love, Kathryn
