The big question: What have you been doing?

                       We’ve been:

Building relationships by conversing, playing, helping
Leading day programs in the poorer communities
                                             Worship all over
Helping in the local middle school
                                             Covering this place in prayer
                                             Attending LOTS of church services

A lot of times I find myself frustrated because I feel useless. I like to be hands on. I think of short term mission trips where you go crank out 6 new houses in 8 days, that’s what I’m used to.  This has been much more about building relationships and sharing the gospel through LOVE, not physical needs. Each month serving is going to be different. El Salvador is almost over and I’ve enjoyed every bit of it.

After 4 weeks here, we walk down the streets and actually know people we pass by: the kids we played tag with at school, the lady we buy tortillas from everyday who invited a few of us for lunch one day, the teenage orphan who has started joining us at church on Sundays, and families who we’ve spent time praying with and discussing the Gospel. We’ve been part of basketball tournaments and neighborhood kids are constantly coming to our house asking to play.

I’m going to miss all of these smiling faces that I’ve gotten to know this month. I may not get to see the immediate fruit of our work here. But I do know that Christ’s love has been shared through our lives in this community. Most people have a memory of someone or some event that planted a seed of the Gospel in their heart. Now we pray that God will grow these seeds in the hearts of our friends here as we move on from El Salvador.
