If you know me, you know that I am a sucker for eyes. I believe that eyes can reveal a significant amount about a person; it is almost like glimpsing a piece of someone’s soul. Like the saying goes, “The eyes are the gateway to the soul.” You can truly see a person by simply looking into their eyes. To me, eyes hold such fascinating and mesmerizing beauty. They express emotion and give away what someone is feeling.

In all the countries we have visited so far, we have come across a plethora of different eyes. I have seen eyes that are filled with hurt, weariness and hopelessness, eyes that have seen way too much, eyes full of lust, and eyes brimming with a searching hunger for something more. I have also seen eyes that know the love and joy of Jesus. You can always tell the difference between eyes filled with Jesus and eyes that have never experienced Jesus’ love.

Here in India, we have had the privilege to travel to different children’s homes that house orphans and abandoned children. When we arrive at each home, we are met by children with the biggest dark brown eyes. Their eyes are absolutely mesmerizing. Eyes that make your heart automatically turn to mush. Many of the children’s eyes have seen and experienced so much heartache at such a young age. Whether they lost parents, other relatives who were caretakers, or abandoned, their eyes have witnessed it. Although they have experienced heartbreak and hurt, their eyes are filled with an indescribable beauty. This beauty is a reflection of knowing Jesus and having His joy and love in their lives. Each home is set up to where a pastor and his wife and family will take care of all the children like they are their own. It is truly beautiful to behold. These precious angels with the big, dark eyes looking up at me, filled with so much love, have absolutely captivated my heart. I pray that when others look into my eyes, they can see Jesus in me.
