We have finished 3 days of camp.
What an adventure we have had.
After the first day I was not only wanting child like faith but also child like energy.
The children are very energetic and inquisitive.
On Tuesday night we traveled to a squatter’s camp called Joe Slovo.
There we were able to meet some of the children’s parents, minister to them and better understand where the children come from.
The children sleep in tin houses and wander the alleys by themselves even at the age of 2.
Rusted barb wire is around a lot of houses and the children crawl between it to retrieve their soccer balls as they roll under it.
Today it was 30 degrees here and many of the children had no warm clothes.
I was bundled in almost every single piece of clothing in my back pack and on my lap sat a little girl in a short skirt with flip flops.
Many of the children’s parents have no jobs and get about 30 dollars a month from the government and live off of that alone.

We have learned that this week of camp is their only chance to be a child and to get poured into about Jesus.
Our morning starts off with praise and worship which consists of fun songs and skits.
Then half the camp does recreation for a couple of hours while the other half does a bible study lesson with crafts and fun learning games.
After a couple of hours the groups switch.
Around 1pm the children all get fed.
A re-cap on the day is done once all are fed and then each child either walks home or is taken home in a van.

During these last couple of days God has been revealing his beauty to me.
The children’s smiles just light up a room.
Their giggles are music to your ears.
They live in a community of tin houses and rusted barb wire but in the background the view is of beautiful green trees, hills and blue skies.
Loving and hugging the kids is such a blessing from God for me.
