Month Five sends us down to the beautiful beaches of Phuket, Thailand.

Just over the mountain where we are staying lies the city of Patong. Patong and Phuket are known for open prostitution bars filled with women even as young as 17 who are sent here by their families to be the sole providers for their homes back in the villages mostly in Northern Thailand. Just beyond the bars there is a ring of underground sex slavery where women and children are enslaved to forced prostitution. We even believe that we have encountered child prostitution on the streets, which we were told is rare to see.

The police station lies right in the midst of this. Although prostitution is illegal in Thailand, it is overlooked and ignored by authorities. The police are involved and working along side of the human trafficking, and are being paid off to protect and keep quiet. It’s all about money, and the greed of money and lust of the flesh is fueling the injustice against these young women, children, and even men (most who take are known as “Lady boys”….they dress as women, even get sex changes to appear as women. We were told that parents make their boys do this so that they can bring in income for their homes, which ends up bringing a lot of confusion into these men’s lives.)

We are currently partnering along side of SHE ministries (Self Help and Empowerment). It is headed up by British couple, Mark and Sharon Biddell , who are the cofounders of SHE.

SHE is a non-profit organization aimed at helping vulnerable women trapped in the sex industry in Patong. Their goal is for women to gain life skills and good work ethics, leading to financial independence. 95% of all prostitutes coming to SHE end up meeting Jesus as their LORD and Savior.

Since the foundation began, the women have been making jewelry.

The market has been primarily overseas and all proceeds are ploughed back into the foundation. Once the women have had sufficient time at the center to re-adjust and prepare themselves for the next stage of their lives, many of the women return to their villages. The foundation gives them the opportunity to set up their own small businesses by providing the women with resources to take back home and make the jewelry from there.

They are also branching out in free job training in food and beverage service, housekeeping service in hotel industry, and basic English courses. During all this, free shelter is offered to the women and their children.

Our Mission:

GO into the bars, befriend the prostitutes and Lady Boys, visit them over again, invite them to lunch or coffee, introduce SHE as a highway out of the prostitution ring.
Every day we prayer walk Bangla Road where a lot of the prostitution takes place.

Please pray for:

60% of men who fly to Thailand are here for buying prostitutes. Please pray for these men that the Holy Spirit will convict and turn them away.

-Prostitution in Thailand is the #1 income for the country, pulling in even more money than the government. Pray for the government that ignores this issue of injustice due to the vast amount of money that it circulates into their land.

80% of men in Thailand are consistent customers of prostitutes. Fathers will introduce their sons who are as young as 12 to a prostitute. Please pray for men to rise up and be protectors of women and children, for the Holy Spirit to convict, and for men of God with integrity to rise up in this land.

-Please pray for the women, children and men who are involved in human trafficking whether by force or by obligation to their families
