Our squad gathered on the outskirts of Bangkok for our first few days in Thailand. We debriefed and refreshed. We worshiped and were restored. We said goodbye to our squad leaders who has led us this far, and watched as our new squad leaders were raised up to carry us the rest of the way. It felt like a family bond. A place of safety where we understand each other, fight for each other, and love each other in to the greatness God is calling us.
The last day in Bangkok, we gathered as a squad and went in to the heart of the city to prayer walk a Buddhist temple. Idolatry still seems bizarre to me. I seen it in Malaysia, and its also everywhere here. I ignorant to think that is secluded within the realms of the Old Testament days, but as I walk the streets of Bangkok and see shrines and idols to Buddah in every direction I turn, I realize that its just as real now as it was thousands of years ago.
This is the Wat Po Temple with the Reclining Buddha.
This temple was constructed in 1781 on the site of a monastery dating back to the 16th century. This Buddha is 46 meters long. Wat Po is considered the first center of public learning, “Thailand’s first university”. The temple grounds houses 400 other Buddha images too!
When I first walked into this temple, I stood shocked. This dude was HUGE! Like huge is an understatement when standing in front of this Buddha. I never saw an idol this big!
As I walked away, all I could think is, “how much BIGGER is our God!” This guy is a spec of dirt compared to the greatness of the King of kings and LORD of lords! AND my God doesn’t live in a box, as this Buddha was kept in!!!
So I challenge you not live like we have a small God, and don’t confine God to the box of our finite imaginations!
Let Him blow you away by how BIG HE IS!
