Our first month of ministry was busy, eventful, and AMAZING! My team was joined by two other teams from J-Squad, the Cubs of Judah and team Encounter. After about 3 days of travel, we finally arrived in Mokhotlong, Lesotho.
Mokhotlong is located in the mountains of Lesotho. While there we stayed at the ministry house, which was on the side of a mountain. This aloud us to get lots of exercise as we walked up and down that mountain every day. While there we did a variety of different types of ministry.
Hospital Ministry
Every morning we took turns sending 3 people to share from the word and pray with the clinic patients.
Once a week we would go and visit with patients and pray for them.
School Ministry
Once or twice a week we would send a small team to the local primary school. We would teach them songs, tell Bible stories as well as act them out.
Once or twice a week we would send a few of us over to the high school. After their lunch they held a club that meets twice a week. We would give a word and a testimony. This was my favorite ministry. I was able to give both my testimony and a short word to the kids.
Prison Ministry
We went to the local prison once a week. Each time we shared several testimonies, a word, and prayed with inmates.
Construction
We cleaned up around the church, picked up and burned trash, painted long drop doors, installed windows at the new orphanage, did yard work at the ministry house, as well as repaired and moved the playground.
Youth Night
Every Friday we would all go down to the church and host a youth night. We would share the word, sing, and play a game with the local youth.
Soup Kitchen
Twice a week we would take a meal to the hospital to share with clinic patients and the expecting mothers staying at the hospital. While there we would share the word and pray with the clinic patients and expectant mothers.
Once a week Pastor Tsepo would drive 3 of us to a clinic about an hour away. While there we would share a word and pray with patients
Church
We went to Harvester’s church the first and last Sundays of the month we were there. The church was very welcoming and we thoroughly enjoyed worshiping with our brothers and sisters in Christ.
The two middle Sundays we broke up into teams and visited 4 different churches.
The first Sunday my group drove for about an hour into the mountains, and then walked for about 20 minutes to the next village over. We had service outside, it was a new church plant. I was able to give my testimony and a team member gave the message.
The next Sunday we walked about an hour out of town to a nearby village. Church was outside. This Sunday my team asked me to give the sermon. Initially I planned to give my message based off of Isaiah 53. I had the whole thing written out in my journal. As we began worship I felt the Holy Spirit telling me to change my message to Isaiah 43. This was rather unsettling as I hadn’t planned on this. However, I chose to step out in faith and my first sermon was completely Holy Spirit led. It was a pretty cool experience.
We also got to do a few fun things as well. Our first weekend there a group of us decided to climb the mountain behind our house. I made it most of the way up, but not quite all the way. On our last weekend we drove about an hour away to a place called Sani Pass. This is on the boarder of Lesotho and South Africa. While we were there we enjoyed a beautiful view of the pass, as well as a meal at the highest Pub in Africa.
All in all, it was an amazing month in Lesotho. We made many new friends and truly enjoyed our ministry there.
