"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new." 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV)
When you think of something being new, what do you think of? In this day and age, new could mean a used car that is new-to-you. It could be the "new" iPhone, which is really just an upgrade from the last one, and eventually, will need to be updated again. New can just mean different.
Webster defines new as "being other than the former" and "made or become fresh".
When the Lord makes us new, he isn't just making us a better version of our old self, he is making us completely new. How refreshing to know that in him, we don't have to work to make ourselves good enough, that he just makes us new!
Even if we mess up and act as our old self might act, we are still a new creature in him. His mercies are new every morning. His mercy is everlasting. This means that unlike the latest technology, it will never become obsolete.
Yesterday, I was baptized along with several others at my church. Baptism is the outward sign of an inward change. It is the representation that the old self has died and the new has been born. I made a decision to follow Christ with my whole self 3 years ago at the age of 18, and yesterday I was baptized as a representation of what Christ has done in me. Although I have already been following the Lord for 3 years, I believe that I am stepping into a new season in Him. I will be the first to say that I have so much still to learn, we all do! I'm excited for what is to come!
