— None of the paintings in this blog post are actually for sale. These are only meant to tell a story and give you ideas of what my work looks like at this point.

Last blog I described my journey of discovering that I was an artist. But Papa was not finished in his challenging me. Almost immediately after arriving at our ministry location and starting our work here, I felt him clearly say that I needed to paint for Papa’s House that we were working with. “Say what?!”, was my exact response. I had just started this journey as a real artist, how could I even think about asking them to allow me to paint for them. But Papa was insistent. I was to paint for his house… and he would guide me. So I pulled out my supplies, turned on my soaking music and began to paint.
The first time I sat down to paint specifically for someone else, I had no idea what I was going to paint, or even if it was for the house, for our contact, or for someone else. But as I soaked… I allowed Papa to guide my brush. Color by color, stroke by stroke… Papa flowed through me and together we created. When it was finished, I was still unsure of who it was meant for, but I was certain someone was in need of it.. I only needed to talk to Papa and wait for his answer. Sure enough, it came. One day our contact’s wife was sitting talking to me, and she began describing a vision that Papa had given her a while ago, and how Papa had continued to encourage her by bringing it up at key points in their life and work. As she talked, she described a tree and how it tied into Ps@lms 1:1-3. I knew immediately that my painting was for her. I showed it to her immediately, and shared with her how Papa had developed each part of the painting, from the colors of the background, to the colors of the leaves on the tree, and how he gave me the reference at the very end to tie it all together. It all lined up.

After being encouraged by my first successful “solo” painting outside of a class, I felt enough gumption finally to begin painting for the house. And while I have not fully completed the vision Papa has given me… my journey has been incredible. Here is a few of my favorites so far.

“Light From Darkness. Beauty from Brokenness” – The essence of Papa’s House in Thailand and especially in the area we are working.

“Beside Still Waters”. Part of a Psalm 23 Abstract Art series I am working on for the House

“Valley of the Shadow of Death” Part of a Psalm 23 Abstract Art series I am working on for the House

“Comforting Rod and Staff” Part of a Psalm 23 Abstract Art series I am working on for the House. (This one is actually not done yet. The rod & staff are still really ..off.. to me. I’ll try and update the pic when it is done. I love the background though!)
Inspired by my new-found passion, my teammates suggested that I offer to sell paintings as a fundraiser. I had considered this as a fundraiser prior to leaving the US, but was discouraged by my entire “I’m not a real artist” attitude. Over and over the idea of selling paintings kept coming up, but every time I ignored it knowing that there was no way I could pull it off. But now that I have been released from my bondage and finally embrace the abstract artist lying in wait within my fingertips.. I have decided to tackle the challenge.
SO.. if you are interested in commissioning a painting, please contact me via email or by the contact me link on the side bar! I cannot do very detailed works (people, detailed scenes, etc.), but I usually work with a few set colors in mind, and let the art create itself from there.
If you have a color scheme you would like me to use, or if you have a particular quote or reference or have a modern/abstract painting you would like me to use as inspiration I will take requests! I am also willing to “surprise you”! (I would send you a picture of the completed project for approval before final shipping).
