My impressions of Moldova were… that I had just stepped back in time. The scenery is beautiful, with lush green grass, brightly colored wildflowers, and rolling hills. I found that the people of Moldova are wonderful. They are friendly and very hospitable. However, much of Moldova seems to be about twenty years behind the times. In the villages many still live without running water.
The weather here… started off cool, but spring has sprung in Moldova. Most days it is sunny with an afternoon storm, which cools the nighttime. It has been a nice change from the winter like temperatures of Ireland.
What satisfied me the most? This may surprise many of the people who know me back home…but what satisfied me the most was reading. I know, I know, you are all thinking someone else must be writing this blog. Our contact gave us time for some much needed rest and I was able to find true enjoyment in reading.
What frustrated me the most? As much as I loved all the rest time we were given, I can say that towards the end of the month it became frustrating. Mostly because it gave me too much time to think. This concept surprised me because I am a thinker, but I can on many occasions be an over thinker and this was one of those months. I thought a lot about going home, buying a car, my job, finding a community, and so on and so on.
I see God at work here… in the amazing Sandu family. Through this family God reminded me that we are not always called to a place, but many times we are called to people. God called my team and I to Moldova for this family. To play with the kids, to have daily bible study, to laugh, to talk, to share, and to help them wherever needed so they could minister to the church. They also made us feel like we were part of the family and they poured spiritually into all of us.
