So I am in the Philippines…therefore I can official say that my World Race has begun!  I am still in a little shock that it is really happening, but I can already feel God at work.

This month we are in Manila, Philippines working at Kids Internal Ministries (KIM).  KIM is an amazing ministry intertwined within the community.  My team and I are working in the children’s home, tutoring, and doing construction work…two of my favorite and one of my least favorite things to do.  However, just after one day I can feel God working in me to change my heart.  Now, I’m not saying that I am going to love construction, but I am working on not complaining and being thankful for every moment.

So let me go back and tell you how I came upon being thankful.  During our pre-launch in Atlanta we talked about being thankful for not only the things we like but also the things we do not like.  So, to help me not complain I am working on being thankful for things I don’t like…like construction.  What I am finding is through prayer God can change your heart for those things that you don’t like or make you uncomfortable.  I’m not saying that He is making me LOVE the things that I don’t like and that make me uncomfortable, but just maybe I can like them a little more and be a little less uncomfortable.  More importantly I can live to do everything in God’s glory.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”  Philippians 4:6-7

So here are some things I thankfully prayed for during our time doing construction…mud, getting dirty, arms to carry things, teammates to work with, rain, laughter, kids playing in the pool, funny dogs, singing

Luckily, what I found was that by praying about things I am thankful for I really had no reason to complain.  I carried bags and bags of mud and truly had a great time doing!
