Sorry if you found the title of this blog offensive, but it made you click the link!

Don’t worry, this blog is not a debate on  Pro-Life or Pro-Choice, but it is a blog with a purpose.

As a world racer you learn that your attitude and reactions to situations are a choice.  Sometimes when you are in another culture you have to take bucket showers, or you are in freezing weather with no heater.  Sometimes you are given cow’s stomach for lunch and have to smile for the ones that cooked it with so much love you have to be grateful.  And sometimes you live in community and have to love those around you and extend them grace even when all you want is to hide in your fort made of a towel and a sarong and skype family and friends that understand your worldview and don’t require an explanation for why that comment bothered you.

How World Race “alone time” with Jesus looks like.

In every situation mentioned about you have a choice. You can choose to complain and be miserable, or you can choose to not state the obvious and have a joyful spirit. You can choose to be offended by teammates or you can choose to be vulnerable and talk things through. Your attidude is a choice. Joy is a choice.

Joy isn’t just an emotion or a feeling.  That would be happiness, which is temporary and pails in comparison to joy.  James 1:2-4 says, “Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds,  for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.”

So how do you count it all joy in the midst of trials? You do so by seeing trials in a different light.  View trials as opportunities for growth, not in a victim’s mentality of “woe is me.”  With a slight switch in attitude like that you can have a joyful spirit.  And a joyful spirit, especially in community, is a powerful and contagious thing that God can use for his glory. On or off the World Race.
