I’ve been thinking a lot about sin today. It’s such a happy topic (sarcasm)…

My sin doesn’t just effect me, it affects everyone around me. It harms not just me, but the ones I love most. Sin might be pleasurable at first, but it has it’s consequences…and we all know, those aren’t fun. Guilt, shame, depression, anger, bitterness-not pleasant. Romans tells us that the “wages of sin is death.” Not just physical death, but spiritual death as well. Our sin separates us from God!
When I think about human trafficking these sins really pop out at me:

Greed
Sometimes parents will sell their children to a trafficker, not because they don’t have enough food, though many times that is the case, but because they want a television…no joke, I read an article a few years ago about this women in Japan who sold her daughter into sexual slavery because she wanted a karaoke machine. The trafficker is greedy-among other things. I mean how deranged are you to prey on children for your own monetary gain? The lustful greed of the “johns” who choose to be sexual satisfied by a child.

Anger

I can’t imagine how angry the victims of trafficking are. And they have a lot of people to be mad at, their parents, the trafficker, their pimp, the john’s, their situation, etc. I’ve learned from the book, “The John’s,” that many of the “johns” pay for sex because they are angry at western women, and then pour out their anger on the innocent victims.
Lust

The lust for flesh and the lust for money really drive the sex trafficking. Lust is dangerous. Wanting something that God has chosen not to give you, or is with holding from you for a time is so dangerous, not only is a sin against Him, but the person you are lusting over. Oh and if that person is in a relationship, it’s a sin against them as well- and if they aren’t it’s a sin against their future spouse as well! whoa buddy…
but there is hope! to be continued… 🙂
