VOLCANO EXCURSION!!
Friday we had the opportunity to go visit active volcano, Pacaya! And what an experience it was. We drove for about an hour and a half out of Antigua, half way up a mountain, where we got out and started to hike. We hiked for about another hour and a half up the mountain to get to the volcano next to it. We walked on some hardened lava for awhile up and down and as we got closer, the lava began to get softer and warm. We could feel the heat coming up from the lava. As we kept walking we saw some people coming back the other way with the souls of their shoes half melted! We kept walking and got to a place where it was so so hot and we could see flowing lava! It was moving slowly like an inch worm but quite a site to see.

And yes, we DID roast marshmallows over the hot flowing lava. They were D-licious! I roasted one with Jenn’s walking stick and one with a fork. It wasn’t until later that I realized I had singed the hairs on my right arm while roasting a marshmallow with a fork (apparently that was a little too close :P). We weren’t there long when we were told to move because lava above us was getting ready to flow down to where we were standing. We couldn’t see it at the time but soon after we moved a big chunk opened and fell down a hill of dried lava down to where we had been standing.
don´t let Jenn fall!! :O lol
I am so thankful for the experience in Guatemala, to see some of God’s amazing power in His creation. I have always been fascinated with natural disasters (not what they do to people but the power in them) so this volcano experience made me happy and I thank God for being the BIG, POWERFUL, God He is!

*I am posting a few pictures but be looking for a video blog done by Caitlin in the next week and a comic strip blog done by Renee (more creative and more details in those blogs)
