Here are some thoughts I had while singing in church today. God really does use songs and lyrics to speak to me.
Lincoln Brewster –
Everlasting God
From the album
Let The Praises Ring – Best Of Lincoln Brewster
Strength will rise as we wait upon the Lord
Wait upon the Lord
We will wait upon the Lord
Strength will rise as we wait upon the Lord
Wait upon the Lord
We will wait upon the Lord
Our God You reign forever
Our Hope our strong Deliverer
You are the everlasting God
The everlasting God
You do not faint You won’t grow weary
You’re the defender of the weak
You comfort those in need
You lift us up on wings like eagles
You are the everlasting God
The everlasting God
The everlasting God
The everlasting
As I was singing this song, as I have numerous times since PASSION ’07 at the beginning of this year, one line stuck out to me in a way it hasn’t before. ”
You’re the defender of the weak.” I usually think of this line as God is a defender for me when I’m weak. He’s protects me from the evil one when I am unable; which is true. I’m not sure how other people have thought of this line, but it really made me think of those around us and in other countries who are the poorest of the poor with nothing….absolutely nothing. Some of them without food, water, shelter, and even family. Many have been abandoned. And guess what, God is a defender for them! When it seems no one else is there for them, God is there fighting for them. He loves them and hasn’t given up on them. Many have discounted them as not important or worthless, but God will fight for them and their souls and lives. It got me thinking about the people that I will be getting to know this year as I embark on this adventure to 11 countries in 11 months with AIM. I pray God is already preparing their hearts. I am so blessed to be apart of this…that God is using me to love on those around the world who are ‘forgotten.’ WoW! I would say I am not typically a very emotional person when it comes to crying–not much makes me cry, but even thinking about those people around the world who have no one to love them, who have been stripped of everything; homeless, starving, abandoned–whatever the case may be…listening to these lyrics and being reminded of how hard God is fighting for these people made me want to cry for them. God is definitely breaking my heart even more for these people. I just want to hug them and give them everything they need, but most importantly, God’s love-His
unconditional Love!! I have been so incredibly blessed, yet I take it for granted. Even as I think about it and realize how much I have been given, I take it for granted because I can’t even comprehend not having all the “stuff” and wonderful family and friends I have. It’s all I’ve known. I know this upcoming year, God is going to open my eyes to so much I can’t even begin to imagine right now. He’s going to challenge me and break me, so He can lift me up and mold me more into His image–the image of Christ! He never said it would be easy, but He promised to never give me more than I can handle. He will always give me the strength I need. He is truly the defender of the weak, including me. We serve an awesome, loving God!
