The night started out well. We had our plans set out to go and meet with a few women we had met the night before. We would be meeting at 9pm under the big ice cream cone on Walking Street. We were so excited to continue the conversations from the night before. Our conversations from the night before had been fruitful enough that they wanted to finish the talk.
So, tonight was promising. As we were walking along the beach, we saw women lined up and down the sidewalk, waiting to be “picked out.” That’s when we came across Na, one of the women we would be meeting with in 2 hours. She was hanging out with a friend of her’s, named Rose. They are both prostitutes, and both so sweet and kind. We started talking while they shooed away every curious man that passed by. They decided to leave their post and go with us to KFC for some icecream.
We got to sit and talk to them for over 2 hours about their lives, what they are living for and what they enjoy
doing. They both talked a lot about Jesus and how good He is. East asked them, “If you died tonight, do you know that you would be with God for eternity?” They both answered, “No.” Then Na went on to say that they know that what they are doing is wrong. She knows that she is sleeping with men who have wives at home. She then said, “I don’t like doing this,” and went on to tell us all the stories about men who had ripped them off. The night went on, and we made plans to meet the next evening at 6pm. The next night, Emily and I waited at KFC to meet up with them again. As we were waiting, Na walked up with a big German man next to her. Smiling as usual, she walked up and hugged us. While the man nervously stood to the side, she said, “I was coming by to let you know that I can’t come tonight.”
I asked her if he was her boyfriend and she said, “No, he is a customer. I will be with him until next Saturday.” HE RENTED HER! My heart dropped. Emily and I looked at the man who definitely heard her say who he was, and his face was red and full of embarassment. She then asked him if he wanted to sit at our table, which he turned down. She gave us another hug and said goodbye.
At first, we were confused and very angry. I felt a small ounce of defeat, but then we decided to pray. As we prayed, the Lord reminded us that He is the One who will change her heart. He is the one who chose us and He can do whatever He wants. The enemy only has so much authority. God then gave me a little picture of His love. He said, “This is how my heart hurts when my people choose the things of this world over Me, the One who died to give you life.”
My eyes filled with tears. God is working. This woman now knows that Jesus is the way; she knows that if she really wants to be free, all she has to do is ask Him for help because He is a very present help in times of trouble.
