What would be your response to a person who screams in your face, tells you you’re worthless, beats you beyond recognition and lets you die?

I am pretty sure most of us would have some issues with someone who is capable of such an injustice. I know if it were me, or worse, someone I love, I would have some serious issues with that.

What about if you had given this person something that was really special to you and they still treated you that way without any guilt or remorse?

Love is tough… But it’s crazy.

Jesus loved us to death. He loved us and still does, even though we don’t deserve it. Psalm 103:8 says that the Lord is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love. It’s hard to imagine being slow to anger or even abounding in love when you’re hanging on a cross, being spit on, cursed and mocked. Luke 23:34 says that while on the cross, Jesus even asked the Father to forgive the people who were crucifying Him because they didn’t know what they were doing.

This is the love that the Father has for us, His creation. He loves us with an everlasting love. This is the crazy love He has put inside of us. The kind of love that when someone is cold, we offer them our jacket to keep even if they have spent most of the night cussing us out and telling us they hate Jesus. Or even more, this kind of love is a woman whose husband was just martyred, praying that God would forgive the men who tortured him, because they had no idea what they were doing. We are loved so well by Him, and He calls us to love the world well.

What are we doing?
