When I left on the race last September, I didn't expect to see my parents until the end of July – a whole 11 months after leaving. God surprised us with the opportunity to invite our parents to join us for a week on the field – my parents both jumped at the opportunity. They will be joining me in Romania in less than one week and I'm excited to share this journey with them, for them to see how The Lord has changed me over the last 8 months, and what He has in store for me in the months to come.
I asked me parents to write a blogs out their thoughts and expectations – they are worried about many of the same things that many Races go through leading up to and during the race.
"Good for you. I can totally see you doing this".
But in my mind I also thought:
I would never in a million years actually do anything even remotely close to it.
Little did I know doors would open for us to actually join Karen and some of her team on the field.
I am a planner
I want to know all the details about what will happen and when it will happen
What will I wear
What will we be expected to eat?
Where will we sleep?
What bugs, spiders or snakes will be there?
Will I be able to take a shower?
What will I do with my hair?
Will I have to use a squatty potty or worse yet go behind a bush? { I still have very vivid memories of growing up in Kansas and using an outhouse or just going out beside the dark church when I was too scared to actually go into a dark outhouse}.
I cannot wait to see how the Lord blesses my parents, stretches their faith, and changes their worldview during our week together. I believe he will do infinitely more in their lives than they could think or imagine!
