February 14: the universal day of LOVE.
This year it's more than another day filled with flowers, chocolates, candy hearts and teddy bears.
It marks the way half point for the race!
At this point in time, I have finished as much of the race as what still lies ahead! From here on out, with every passing day, I draw closer to the conclusion of my trek around the world and one step closer to returning home. While it still seems like an eternity before I'm reunited with family and friends, time is NOTHING to the Lord; a day is like one thousand years, and one thousand years are like a single day.
There have been many times over the last five and a half months that I would have gladly packed my bags and returned home, but onward I go. Something much bigger than myself has kept me here. I'm constantly reminding myself that while it may seem like an eternity before I can enjoy the comforts of home, it'll be here before I know it!
Before I left, my mom asked several of my close friends to write a letter for me to open on a specific day during the race. Today, I was finally allowed to open the most appealing envelope!
I'm sure you can see its outer appeal too; plus, this envelope was thick, not flat like the others I've opened, something must be inside!
When I opened it, I discovered an amazingly written letter that not only encouraged me to press on but also reminded me of who I am in Christ, a few pieces of candy!!!! And neon green index cards! I definitely found a piece of my friend's heart in this! Thanks Amy!!
After rereading this letters few times, I agreed that the 160some days that remain isn't long when you consider what there is still to do.
-
God still wants to do tremendous things in me and through me.
-
There are tons of people who still need to hear the name of Jesus.
-
There are tons of people who need to experience God's unconditional love or receive his freedom.
And for whatever reason, I'm the one who will shout his name from the mountaintops, who will demonstrate his unconditional love, and explain how to receive freedom in Christ.
As Jesus Calling said this morning, Give yourself fully to the adventure of today.
I give myself to God, to be his vessel, his hands and feet. I will take advantage of every opportunity to share the good news while enjoying the path he has me on.
Lord, remind me how brief my time on earth will be.
Remind me that my days are numbered – how fleeting my life is.
You have made my life no longer than the width of my hand.
My entire lifetime is just a moment to you; at best, each of us is but a breath.
