…because today He granted 3 wishes.
We have made it to Costa Rica! We left D.C. on Friday January 11 and flew to Dallas. We had about 40 minutes to get 54 people off one flight and onto the connecting flight. God totally was right there with us, and without a hitch we all made it on, some even with ice cream! We landed in Costa Rica at about 8pm. All of us made it through immigration, all of us got our bags, and all of us made it through customs without any issues what so ever. God was right beside us the whole time. I think my favorite memory of our travel to Costa Rica was when we were about 20 minutes away from landing and I looked out the window to see a sea of lights, twinkling lights. It was one of the most beautiful things I had ever seen.
We met with some of our contacts at the airport and within minutes one of the locals, Rolan, who helps out with the school we are working with quoted the movie Elf to me! I knew right then and there me and Costa Rica were going to get along wonderfully. We arrived to the school we were working at and met our contact Katie. They had even prepared sandwiches for us! She then gave us the rundown of what today would look like and then we went to bed to prepare for our busy first day.
Day 1 in Costa Rica had us all awake by about 630am simply because the sun was so bright in our room and we couldn’t sleep anymore. We had breakfast and then attempted to head to the fruit and veggie market. We made it to the bus stop and waited for the bus, but we were on a time crunch and the bus wasn’t coming fast enough so we walked back to the school.
Wish 1: To see a wedding in another country
Katie informed us last night that there would be a wedding taking place at the school today and that we would be attending. I could hardly contain my excitement! I had asked God if this could maybe be a possibility. He says He will grant us the desires of our heart and in this case he did. I was sharing this with Katie and she told me that the date of the wedding had been switched several times so this must have been a God thing. Even though I barely understood the words being spoken, it was a beautiful ceremony and for the most part I could keep up with what part of the ceremony they were performing. To top it off the bride looked beautiful, and we got soda and cake.
Not only did God provide one dog to greet us when we arrived at the school last night, we have had two more join her today. We are not really sure what the dogs names are/were but we have renamed them Rhonda, Stinky, and Curtis. They are the sweetest dogs… but seem to think that the deeper into the night we get the more it must be playtime. But we love them all the same! Rhonda has taken an interest in Bug. This made her happy.
Our team has the privilege of having Anika and Jenn step up to make our meal menu. Today we did our grocery shopping for the week and part of that included half the team (I was not with them. Kent and I hit up the local Price Mart, which is pretty much a Sam’s) going to the fruit and vegetable market. Anika was super excited! I can’t wait to experience the market next week.
Today also found us cleaning the Pastors new house. The house is huge and gorgeous. I believe we will be helping them move in this week sometime. So day 1 was long and jam packed, but I wouldn’t have changed it for anything!
Oh and did I mention we saw a Mickey, Minnie, and Goofy posing for pictures in Central Park today? Yep that really happened.
It is official; I am in love with Costa Rica!
