My Mom is Here!
On Saturday (yesterday), the 17th, my mom arrived with a bus load of other parents at 3:35pm to Dragonesti-Olt.
I cannot tell you how much I missed my mom, and getting the next two and a half hours with her before dinner just vanished it seems.
Those two hours were not just used to talk about what’s going on back home, what’s going on here, how each other are doing, but “Hey! here’s everything I brought you!” (I was ready to wait till like Tuesday for all these things, but I will say I’m so excited for new things -> More on that in a minute though)
But it was just a really great time. Definitely glad for it and just the whole initial start of our time together. It was wonderful!
So… speaking of things my mom brought me… I got a hard drive to put pictures, documents, and whole bunches of things that are just eating up space on my computer; kinesiology tape for my knee, a new outfit, NEW CHACOS!!! and…. REESE’S!!! Reese’s are my FAVORITE candy bar and you cannot find it anywhere overseas. And the Chaco’s are amazing because my five year old ones are about to break. I love my mom and the half a suit case full of stuff she brought me. I love it more that she’s taking my big pack loaded with stuff home with her.
Last night was really just a lot of racer parent time together. We ate dinner with the other parents (it was SO loud but the food was good) and then had a time of worship with everyone. After getting some details about what today would look like, me and some other racers performed the Life House Skit for our parents. It was awesome and definitely a different experience than the time I did it in Malaysia and again in the Philippines.
After worship I had to say bye to my mom as Racers and parents do not stay together at the same place. But I saw her again this morning! We had coffee and breakfast and then hurried off to head with Elise and Mrs. Swepston to a church we were to attend.
This church was amazing. It had about 12 people including the four of us and was a house church. This is something Elise and I had yet to experience on the Race, but it was just wonderful. They welcomed us, they loved on us, and they served us well. Most churches we go to don’t try to translate their language to English for us, but Pastor Marian did. He translated songs, prayers and the message, and was mine and Elise’s translator when we shared with the church. It was a wonderful experience and I’m glad I got to have it with my mom.
After church we came back for lunch at our home (ministry) church. We ate with other Racer’s and their parents and enjoyed a cultural dish called Sarmalla (stuffed cabbage – it’s really good). After lunch and an orientation session with our host we got to have parent racer time as they call it. I was able to take my mom to where me and the other Racer’s are staying (the Mission house) and show her around. We played cards and I taught her a new game I’ve learned on the Race called 3 to 13. She won….. We watched Caleb Pauls (a squad mate who vlogs constantly) videos with other squad mates, and then went back to the church for dinner and our worship night with the squad.
It’s been a wonderful first full day with my mom and I’m really excited for these next 3 days with her. Tomorrow we’ll be going to another city to do prayer walks and pass out Bibles as well as do a little bit of evangelism. I’ll be writing a blog about how PVT is going and what my mom and I are up to daily, so be sure to check back tomorrow to catch that blog!
Till Next Time,
Kara Faber
