I have now been on the Race for 3 months. It’s crazy how quickly time flies and how much you can grow. These past three months have been filled with the journey of pursuing God daily and having Him and the Holy Spirit pour into me. Seeking Him out, even when I don’t feel like it or want to, has been the best decisions of each day. I have grown so much through my pursuit of Him and my pursuit for more of Him. To know His will, to be in His will, to desire Him, to love Him more fully, to show His love to others as He desires, to gain insight. I could go on. My walk with Him is constantly changing and I pray that that continues.

If you are considering going on the World Race, I recommend it for these reasons alone. It truly is so much more than going into a 3rd world country and serving God there. You can serve Him in America, right where you are at. But the World Race is an experience, that if you choose to, you can learn and grow in your walk with God. You can gain an intimacy with Him as never before. And it’s something that will change the rest of your life as you take this into every aspect of whatever you are doing.

Hey everyone! My name is Kara, I’m 21 and grew up in Roanoke Va. I am on the M Squad and we have created our name to be the Misty Mountains. I am super excited for this opportunity to spread the Gospel and glorify God in this way. Below I have listed a few things about myself that you may not have known, hope you all enjoy 🙂

1. I was homeschooled through 12th grade and had my own graduation. I completely loved it and don’t regret not going to public or private school. My hometown made this fantastic with is co-op classes, sporting events, choir, etc. Through my church and co-op and extra curricular activities I did not lack social experiences.

2. I love music and have participated in one way or another with it since I was 5 years old. I took piano lessons for 13 years, violin for 7 years, guitar for 2 years and I did choir for 10 years. Since January I have had the opportunity with co-leading worship for my young adults class at church on Sunday evenings which has been a great and growing experience.

3. I love being active. Growing up I swam competitively each Summer and through college I played volleyball, sand volleyball and did club swimming. I also took classes on Tennis, weight training, soccer, badminton and yoga. Now it doesn’t matter what the activity, I enjoy it none the less.

4. I love the great out doors! Whether it is hiking, going for a walk in the park, horse-back riding, etc. I love the heat of Summer!

5. James and Romans are my two favorite books of the Bible.

6. I have an amazing family. I am the youngest of 4 with 2 brothers and a sister. Both of my older siblings live in Roanoke, Va still and my other brother lives in Fort Bragg.

7. Last October I brought home to my apartment a 5 week old puppy. I named him Chewbacca and he has grown to be a very big dog

8. I earned my associates degree from Virginia Western Community College in Roanoke and then transferred in January of 2014 to UNC-Greensboro. There I obtained my bachelors degree in Kinesiology in May of 2015.

9. My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving, but I also love Christmas and Labor day. It is these holidays that I get to see most of my extended family. (I have a huge family and I love that. We see each other quite a bit throughout the year which is a huge blessing).

10. My Meyers-Briggs personality score is an ESFJ.

11. I’m currently reading What Jesus Demands of the World by John Piper. It is an amazing book and Piper is an amazing author.

12. I am a natural red-head and it seems my freckles come out more and more every year. When I was a child I hated my freckles because people always mentioned them. Now I love them.

13. The reality that I leave the first part of October for another country has become real to me, but the reality that I will not be back home for almost a year has not yet. I think it’s going to be harder than I think it’ll be.

14. I grew up participating in Awana through my church. I completed every book in the series, but never quizzed nationally in Bible quizzing—my siblings did though. I am thankful for this program though because it taught me the importance of memorizing scripture.

15. I am not a huge fan of bugs, but my dog is scared of them. It is quite amusing until it’s 2 am and he’s barking.

16. I love giraffes. They are herbivores and have the most powerful heart of any animal. No giraffe has the same spot pattern and there are actually 6 different types of giraffes. I also think that they are really graceful.

17. I love taking pictures of nature and landscapes. It doesn’t happen often, but it is a pleasure when I get to. I especially love working with film cameras and developing the photos myself.

18. I like mystery books but I have to be able to not figure out the ending before I get there.

19. I am a huge fan of Lord of the Rings and J.R.R. Tolkien. His writing is phenomenal and Peter Jackson did amazing with the trilogy.

20. Chickfila is my favorite fast food restaurant and Coke is my favorite soft drink. I am also truly southern because I love my mom’s sweet tea (think long and hard before you tell me you don’t)

21. I have always loved snail-mail (that’s hand written letters for those who don’t know). It always brightens my day when I see a letter in the mail addressed to me from a friend 🙂
