There are many in this world that would like to compare the stories of the Bible to a fairy tale, categorizing it on the same level as fictional stories such as Alice in Wonderland. When we read about a little girl following a rabbit down hole into a magical land where she can grow 100 times her size or shrink just as much, where playing cards can talk, and cats disappear, we most certainly know that it is a piece of fiction. But when people read in the bible that men are carried away by a chariot of fire, or donkey’s talk to their master, they may also cheapen the stories of the Bible to nothing more than a collection of bedtime stories, made up to entertain children. But the Bible isn’t a collection of fictional stories. It is real, and even science and archeology are beginning to support this belief.

Secular entertainment is making a lot of money on twisting the truths of the Bible and making them appear foolish and fictional. And many Christians are ok with this. Their argument usually comes from the Bible,

Philippians 1:15-18 It is true that some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, but others out of goodwill. 16 The latter do so out of love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel. 17 The former preach Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains. 18 But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice.

They rejoice because they believe the Bible is being shared. But is it really being shared? If facts are change, the message is lost, and the Bible is downgraded from historical fact to nothing more than fantasy. We must remember what Galatians 1:9 says:

As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let them be under God’s curse!

If it isn’t the same story or the same message. If the Bible and the stories within are reduced to fantasy, then we should not rejoice in the making of such propaganda. Instead we should protest in hope to preserve the very words of God, and the redemptive message that it contains.

I had a dream last night that I was a part of a movie or play that was telling the story of creation through to the end of time. There were so many things that were twisted and wrong. But I kept watching, not realizing at first that it was a parody, meant to make fun of the Christian faith in the Bible. My friend came along and asked what was going on, that she saw that the story line seemed familiar, but not at all correct. I told her that it was a parody of the Bible. She didn’t agree with it at all. But then as I was watching the next scene, there was a line that struck anger in me, and the reaction of the audience enraged me. The line was spoken by a character from the old testament, most likely Moses, as he was compiling his stories for future generations.  The line indicated that the stories were chosen because the story of Alice in Wonderland was already taken. Then two men in the audience fist bumped each other at the hearing of this line. It outraged me because they were celebrating the fact that the stories in the Bible were being compared to a piece of fiction. I stormed out of the room in complete disgust. Another Christian came to me to offer me comfort. She told me that I shouldn’t be upset, because at least the Bible was being shared with unbelievers. I boldly proclaimed that if the message that people were walking away with was that the stories in the Bible weren’t true, that they were fantasy, then it would be better that they didn’t hear the stories at all.

I have been asking the Lord all this week to speak to me. To share a message with me. I strongly believe that message he wants to be heard is that the Bible is reliable and true. We need to bring that message to a world that strongly believes the Bible is made up in the imagination of man as a way to control the masses. I challenge you today to take a stand for the validity of the Bible. It’s message is one of hope and love, from a God that desperately wants to be in a deep, personal relationship with a creation that has rejected him.

I believe it is ok to use scientific and archeological evidences to support the Bible. There is reason to believe that the Bible is a true and reliable as a historical book of the Jewish lineage.  But more than that, it is a message of LOVE and REDEMTION from our creator.
