So yesterday was supposed to be our last day of VBS but it has been raining. We tried to do it one day during a thunderstorm and the church has a tin roof so adding 100 kids in a small room not being able to hear yourself think just isn’t the best scenario. Also, I have never seen a lightning bolt so close before. We were right outside the church getting in the truck, literally 7 feet away from the front door and a bolt struck the church building. Crazy.

So since our ministry was cancelled for the day we decided go to our spot, Pollo Rey (chicken king), the fast food restaurant that has free internet. We ended up meeting a group of guys in their 20’s. There were about 10 of them and apparently they were musicians. They invited us to their concert/show and offered to pick us up in their van. So I was a little nervous admittedly but they were a band at a church so I thought alright, we will check it out.

So we went to dinner at a taco restaurant, using the term restaurant loosely. It is really someone’s kitchen and tables are set up in their back yard and they are the best tacos you will ever eat. Just add picante sauce until your nose runs and you have a sweat-stache, seriously, the best!
So when we finished dinner we returned to Pollo Rey where we were getting picked up. It was about 9:15 pm when we started out towards the concert. We arrived to this large outdoor gazebo with a stage and joined about 300 people probably aged 15-28. They had a 3 hour service and we thought it was over at about 12:30 and wondered why they invited us to a concert not a service. Then we find out it wasn’t over, it was intermission. It was about 1:15am when the real concert began. They performed hard rock and rap and it was awesome. I was really tired but it was loud and people were jumping around and it gave me energy. I took a step back and realized I was out in the middle of nowhere, with 300 Dominicans, 7 Americans, jumping up and down at 3:00 am. Even though there were more bands to go, we decided to call it a night at 3:30. It was soooo fun. “
