We just made it to Uganda
Camping for five days we shall
The squad is reunited
Debrief starts tomorrow

Two buses sat in the airport parking lot
Our backpacks were loaded up
One by one we found a seat
In the knick of time we were off

A new continent
A new country
A new month
A new day
A new chapter

Driving through towns
Villages and countryside
Africa is beautiful
Green grass
Vegetation is growing wild and free
Gorgeous people all around
Red dirt roads
Rooftops of red in the distance
Coca-Cola advertisement every kilometer

A change of scenery
A breathe of fresh air
We drive out of town

We drove uphill
Trees on the right
Trees on the left
We cruised downhill
Two lanes
60 km/h
Yellow lines in the middle
It was like home

It reminds me of a drive
The drive to Grandpas house
Off to the lake we go
M-72 all the way
We go up and down
When road turns into a roller coaster
We know
It's the home stretch
Almost to Glen Lake
Soon we shall see the water
Cross the bridge
And we arrive… At the lake

On the top of the last hill
We race
We race to say
"I can see the water first!"
Sibling competition

So simple
Yet so competitive
So silly
Yet so serious
So odd
Yet so us

Every time we all strive to win
To see the water first
To say "I see the water!" first
Sibling fun
Random games
Music and laughter
Memories

At the bottom of my Africa drive
There wasn't a lake
There wasn't Kirby, Kyra or Kennedy
There wasn't anything worth yelling
There wasn't any competition

There was memories
There was my World Race family
There was Africa
There was new beginnings
There was laughter
There was sleeping
There were memories
Memories in the making

God allows us to take part in big things and little things, crazy adventures and the day to day agendas. He gives us the capability to remember. Make a memory. It doesn't have to be anything extravagant or one of a kind like navigating a submarine in the Atlantic Ocean. It can be surprising a friend with a homemade lunch. Take advantage of every day. Make the small moments count. Make memories. Make traditions, no matter how silly they may seem. You never know when that memory will come back to make you smile or you get to share your memories with those around you…

Welcome to AFRICA!

One week in Uganda for debrief and off to Rwanda to preach the Good News!
