Here’s just a quick update on where I am and what I am doing. I am currently living in Chamba, Mozambique. It is exactly what I thought about when I pictured Africa. It is tropical with palm trees, yet dusty like the desert. There is culture all around me: Women carrying huge water jugs on their heads, babies riding on their mom’s backs, kids dancing in the streets, and drums that play late at night. Needless to say, I love Mozambique.
I have been waiting the whole race to get here. And I have the best ministry ever! I am living in an orphanage for boys. There are 30 boys here who are the sweetest things you have ever met. We live in a house that feels like a tree house, although we sleep in our tents due to the heat.
We play with the boys all day long because there’s not enough water to do the construction we are meant to do. We play volleyball, climb trees, color, play disk golf, dance, laugh, cook, clean, eat (rice and beans ever meal), and simply love on ’em.
God is so good to me and I love the coolest life ever. I sleep in a tent, spend time with the Lord in my hammock under a palm tree, play with little orphan boys, eat really basic meals, get sweaty, shower once a week, and love every moment of it. I am living the American dream… Or at least my version of it. There’s no where else I would rather be than here in the heart of Africa.
If your thinking about doing the Race… You should. And get ready to have the best life ever.
