I just got home from camp. It’s strange… I miss my new family already. They are truly amazing. I arrived at camp, nervous as if I was a middle school girl, and left with new best friends. I’m looking forward to spending the next 11 months with some of the greatest people I’ve ever met.
The last half of camp was incredible. We went through a team formation process and I found out that I am the leader of an all girls team… If you know me, you’re probably laughing right now. That was my one expectation going into camp: “PLEASE God, don’t put me on an all girls team!”. I am a construction worker, had ALL guys in my classes at school, and my two best girl friends are totally dudes (No offense Chelsey and Lacey). I just get along with guys better… Or so I thought.
Before leaving, I asked some of my friends to pray that God would help me to make friends and give me a heart for women. I was so scared that they would not like me, and we would have nothing in common. However, upon arriving at camp, I encountered girl after girl who needed encouragement, and there I was, being the shoulder to cry on. I kept thinking, “Who am I right now? I’m so mushy.” Ha, but God made me fall in love with the heart of a women… After all, I am one 🙂 I found myself completely broken for my new friends and found joy in listening to their stories. What an honor to know the women that I do.
After I found out who was on my team, we were told to leave camp and go “make a memory”. So naturally, we went to go eat Mexican food!!! Yum! I must say, we laughed and laughed and laughed. We had a great time and were also VERY productive. As we enjoyed our first “American” meal, we came up with our team name.
Team names are very important because there are such power in words. We realized that it was God who should be the one to name us. So, we prayed and asked God what our name should be. We sat quietly and listened to His voice. We all kept hearing things about being brave, courageous, strong, warriors of Christ. After throwing a bunch of names around, one just clicked: Team BattleCry.
Here’s the meaning: “The women of “Team BattleCry” are called to be warriors. We ARE brave, strong, courageous, prayerful, and fighting for the lost, broken, and hurting people of the world. We have not been called to live the American Cream, but to RISE UP and be a generation of change. We don’t enter the nations in silence, but with a BattleCry for the King… He WILL be made known.
My teammates are: Megan Montgomery, Ashley Huber, Kim Butler, Amanda Dourough and Lauren Erb. If you get a chance, check them out.. They are amazing!
