I have come to the conclusion that all the children in Africa are born with a heart that beats like a drum. This drum can be either in rhythm with what the Lord is beating or you can be making your own time and not keeping beat.
We have been to a few different church services where once the drums come out, something happens to my spirit. I can feel the beating of the drum pounding in my heart. It makes me want to jump, shout and sing. It makes me feel as though my heart is beating with the Lord’s.
A man that was in prison a few years ago decided to make Jesus Lord of his life and started a church we visited. He wants his community to know that even though he lived a very different life a few years ago, Jesus has changed his heart. We had the opportunity of joining in worship and thanking God for all the good He’s done, because that is His nature. As soon as the women went up to the front of the church and the drums started drumming, something changed. Our feet were moving, our hearts were singing and our voices were singing a song my heart has not heard before. Even though we were all singing in different languages, we were all worshipping the same Lord.
Another church we went to was doing an all night worship and intercession prayer night. We stayed for a short time, due to our ministry schedule the next day, but were able to participate in worship and some teaching. The memorable part about the night was that even though the power went out a few times, the singing never stopped. We do not need to see to be able to sing aloud. We do not need microphones to be heard. We do not need music to sing praises to God. Michael and I had a fun opportunity of joining some girls in some dance moves while we worshipped together.
This white girl sure knows how to dance like a white girl.
The family sings songs of praise and worship after every meal after we thank the Lord for all the things He has done in our lives. It is so beautiful to just sit around the table and worship the Lord together as brothers and sisters in Christ. We learn songs in Lugandan, Swahili and English. The whole family is involved in this time of worship. It is beautiful to watch when the little girls will come up and sing or pray. The rhythm that they have never ceases to amaze me every time they start clapping or dancing; they were born with a rhythm that is only found in Africa.
I am so thankful to be in Africa for another 2 months. It is weird to think that we are already one-third of the way done with this continent. We will be headed to our ministry location in Kenya on February 2nd. My team will be traveling to the Maasai Mara Game Reserve where we will be serving a community of 4,000 people. We will be living in our tents in a remote area on the game reserve. I am really excited about the next page of this chapter in my life. Who knows, maybe I will adopt a zebra for the month.
Thank you all for your continued prayers and support. I am greatly encouraged every time I read an email or message from you. It really helps knowing that you are all a part of this journey, just as much as I am. I love you all.
Love, Babidia Kaitlyn
