We flew into Kathmandu, Nepal on August 1st and my heart could not be any more excited about the mountainous view and the greenery. I was rejoicing in God’s beautiful creation. I was so excited to finally be in Nepal! Especially because it reminded me so much of home and that it was also somewhere new!
Our teams scattered shortly after we landed to go to our different ministry sites. My team went with 3 other teams to work under Bhuvan and his ministry. He owns a 4-story home outside Kathmandu that houses men, women and children that were in human trafficking and helps them enter society again by helping them with education, safety and work.
I was so excited to be involved in this type of ministry because it was in my area of expertise: children and talking to women. I was so excited to be a part of this, also because the view was extremely breathtaking! Mountains everywhere you look!
However, my world was quickly shattered a few hours later. We were told the evening of the 2nd that our team would be leaving and teaming up with Bhuvan’s father-in-law in Haripur, Nepal.
Nepal, mountains everywhere, right?
WRONG.
We were sent to the jungle of Nepal. I bet you did not know that there were jungles in Nepal. Let me tell you, there are, I am living in it.
I was so upset to find out that we were being sent 7 ½ hours south of Kathmandu, and that we would be living in the flatlands and that we would be 22 kilometers north of the Indian border. We just got out of India, why are we going back? Another thing about the village we were being shipped off to was that earlier in the week, elephants trampled someone’s house and killed 2 people.
You have got to be kidding me!!
I did not sign up to be sent to the jungle of Nepal! I signed up to go to the mountains and do ministry where it was cooler and I did not have to be concerned about malaria, angry elephants, crazy snakes, monkeys stealing your valuables, and sweating all the time in Nepal! I signed up to go to Nepal where God called me to go serve and love His people.
Oh.
