Here’s an overall update on where the heck I am in the world right now, and where the heck I’m going to be in a day or so.

As I’m writing this, I’m sitting in a coffee shop in a beautiful, artsy city called Georgetown on the island of Penang.

We arrived in Malaysia a little over a week ago, on December 1st, and enjoyed 5 days together as a squad during debrief in Kuala Lumpur. We had sleepovers every night (20 people in bunk beds all in one room – that’s what I call a sleepover!), rested, went to the movies multiple times, enjoyed the sights of KL, spent time with each other, and were poured into as we worshiped our God and basked in his love for us.

On December 6th, I traveled with Team Teleios to Georgetown, where they’ve started their mission for the month searching for Unsung Heroes in Malaysia. Kayla and I have been guiding and encouraging them in their new role this month and have loved watching them settle easily into it.

Tomorrow, I’ll meet up with the rest of my team in Changlun, a small town of about 3000 people that is completely Muslim, where I’ll be spending the rest of my month doing ministry.

We’ll be working alongside Team Fearless Unity and partnering with a pastor and his family. We’ll be helping with their kindergarten ministry, putting on kids clubs, and helping out with odd jobs around the church and house.

During this Christmas season, God is going to teach us countless lessons about what it means to be his children and what it means to rest in him. For some of us, it’ll be our first time away from home during Christmas. It will be a time when we learn more about each other as a family. We may struggle with homesickness, but we have each other and we have our Heavenly Father.

It will also be a time of learning that even in a nation that doesn’t know the Jesus that was born into this world to rescue us from our sins, we can rest in his arms and remember the incredible things he has done for us and will continue to do for us.

We won’t be close to internet – it will be about a 15 minute walk into town for access to the rest of the world. Please pray that we use this time to be intentional with one another, with the pastor and his family, and with Jesus. This is going to be an awesome month without distractions!
