Well folks, it’s about that time I introduce myself. Here goes nothing:

My name is Kaitlin Elaine McElroy and I’m 21 years old. I come from small town Ottumwa, Iowa…. Not to be confused with Ohio or the state known for potatoes. Here, we grow corn. I am a 4th year biology major at Wartburg College or as I like to call it, Hogwarts. Wartburg is located in Waverly, Iowa and Waverly happens to be home of the Nestle Chocolate headquarters, so literally the air here often smells like chocolate (be jealous). Before I ran off to college, I lived at home in good ‘ole Ottumwa with my parents, Doug and Lisa, and my older sister, Rachel… and our two cats. 

To further introduce myself, here are the top 12 things you should know about me (12 because that’s my favorite number):

  1. People claim I look like Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence), so often my nickname has become Katniss or Katnip.
  2. I have the ability to be ridiculously accident prone and getting injured in just about every way.
  3. If I could be any animal in the world, it would be a red panda.
  4. I am an avid Harry Potter fan, hence the association with me going to Hogwarts. (Don’t worry, I don’t actually believe I go to Hogwarts, there’s a story behind it).
  5. I love to sing and belt any song at the top of my lungs. It makes me happy.
  6. I am a runner and ran track through my junior year of college until I officially “retired”.
  7. I love to be in the great outdoors and my favorite memories are the annual week long camping trip my family takes to the lake.
  8. My favorite color is purple.
  9. My favorite pastime is people. I absolutely love to meet new people and learn about their lives and who they are.
  10. My sister is my role model and best friend.
  11. My favorite meal (and last one I’ll have before the race) is steak, potatoes, and green beans servied with a cold glass of milk and with my mom’s peach crisp for dessert. 
  12. Service and worship have always been a huge part of my life and help make me who I am. Having the opportunity to go on the race next fall has answered every prayer, hope, wish, and goal I’ve ever had.

I think I listed the most important things about me, I hope I haven’t scared you away. I’ll leave you with my favorite quote:
