New Begginings
That’s just what these next three months are all about, also the name of the camp (our new home) is.
We were greeted to the beautiful, wonderfully warm Phillipines by Rudy (a 55 year old firecracker) holding a little paper sign with our team name “The Edge” on it. With our big packs and day packs strapped on and a smile from ear to ear on our faces we were full of excitement to start this new chapter. We complied all our stuff in the back of his van and started the trip down or should I say up to the camp. It was already night time so we couldn’t fully take in the breathtaking view that we’d find ourselves waking up to every morning.
A couple hours later (around 5am) I got up out of my wooden bunk bed and stepped out on the balcony. The jet lag got me because I was wide awake and felt like I could run a marathon (or at least to the fridge for a snack because I was quite hungry). I sat down on the bamboo chairs that line up across the balcony and waited for the sun to rise. Little did I know the view I was about to experience would be one of my favorite things about this place. Mountains, clouds, jungle, and a couple random shacks mixed in. Words can not describe the beauty of this place.
Our first day here we got to meet the little community we will be working along side with.
Living at the campground with us is Pastor, Mama Jo and their 2 daughters.
They are a sweet little family who already love us so well. Mama Jo works her magic in the kitchen cooking us mouthwatering meals accompanied by rice, lots of rice. I’m lovin it
Mike and Natalie (our hosts) came a couple hours later and let me just say… wow.
They are some of the coolest, realist people I’ve ever met. They live about 40 minutes away and are so involved with this ministry working with them is sweet and it’s only been a couple of days.
Over the past week we’ve dived into ministry working with Rudy helping him move the snack shack from its location now to his house down the street. To get there we walk from the campground down a road filled with trees, little shacks, kids and adults greeting us and Loretta the cow (I named that gem). We have been tearing down the building, shoveling gravel, digging holes, un attaching and attaching bamboo back together and lots of other random things that are needed to move and rebuild this thing. It’s been a sweaty blast.
So far, soo good.
I can’t wait to see what comes out of being here and just getting to know and love on this community a little more each and every day.
