As Valentine’s Day rolled around, I had mixed feelings leading up to it since this year I would be single on this day celebrating love. I learned that I had nothing to be apprehensive about.

There’s a difference between being single and being alone.

On Valentine’s Day, I was single but loved ones who made me appreciate this wonderful day in a new light surrounded me.

I was not alone.

I started off the day by attending the first ever Women’s Leadership Summit here in Hawaii. My mentor, Susan Yamada, gave me the opportunity to attend this event and I was blown away by her love, kindness, and generosity. This event gave me the opportunity to be inspired by incredible women.

The next part of my day consisted of school and work. I love learning and was happy to be at school learning from a professor who was passionate about his work. I also love my work environment and the people I work with. It gave me a greater appreciation for the wonderful job I was able to get within the past month.

After work, I had the opportunity to watch my brother’s baseball game with my family. Since I’ve been studying in Europe the last few years, I haven’t watched baseball since my freshman year of college. It was such a blessing to be back watching a sport I love, and supporting my younger brother.

To top off this day of love, I was blessed to spend my evening with my sisters in Christ. I was invited to an Italian Rooftop Dinner and we had Italian food with an incredible view. Most importantly, I had the chance to hang out with my sisters and meet new one’s as well. I’ve never laughed so hard in a long time.

I had the chance to be loved and share the love with mentors, colleagues, friends, coworkers, family, sisters, strangers, and so much more.

The best part about Valentine’s Day is that I’ll always have a man to celebrate it with. He sweeps me off my feet not just on Valentine’s Day, but every day that I open my heart to him and let him be a part of my life.

Jesus is my prince charming.

He is a man who will always love me, take care of me, listen to me, and be with me. He comforts me in my darkest days and celebrates with me in my victories. He encourages me to step out in faith and loves me not just for my physical beauty, but also for my inner beauty.

So on this Valentine’s Day, I was reminded of the wonder that love is so much more than gifts and a special someone.
