I’m sitting in the airport after a quick weekend trip to celebrate a personal hero in my life growing another year older. My great uncle “Doodle” turned 90 this weekend and as I’m sitting here in this airport the Lord is speaking. What is the point of this life? Of all of this? To love others. To fight for others. To sacrifice for others.
See, my Uncle Doodle has lived a life worthy of His calling. He’s lived a sacrificial life. He stormed the beaches of Normandy. Omaha beach to be exact. And as he explains it he was a “sitting duck” when landing on that beach. How he survived? I would say because he had a calling on his life greater than he ever thought. My uncle was in a 200 man company on that D-Day and of those 200 men only 15 survived. He saved one along the way of saving himself. My uncle is a LEGACY. The amount of people that came to celebrate him today was humbling.
While all of this is awesome and my heart bursts with pride for all he has done he isn’t a hero just because of storming that beach that day but because of how he lives his life on a daily basis. So many people described him as a “light” in their lives and one said that my Uncle Doodle goes to church every Sunday and prays for the ones he loves. My Uncle is 90 years old and still has purpose. He hasn’t lost heart. He is finishing his race strong. So, friends as we are going through our lives remember the calling on your lives. That while you still have breath in your lungs use it to praise God’s mighty name. Use it to speak His gospel. While you have a heart beating in your chest use it to love people despite the risk of being hurt by them. Jesus loved knowing what was coming. He sacrificed knowing so many would refuse Him. He didn’t let that stop Him because it was for that very hour that He was brought to this earth. So, let’s not forget why we are here. That we are here for this moment. Right now. Not for the big things coming ahead but for these daily, mundane moments. Live life full on remembering the heartbeat of Christ Jesus. Desiring to point people towards Him.
“Now my soul is troubled, and what shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour’? No, it was for this very reason I came to this hour. Father, glorify your name!” (?John? ?12?:?27-28? NIV)
