Hello from Haiti!!

We arrived here a week ago today! It is all squad month so all of D squad is here in Haiti at Mission of Hope. We have very limited internet this month so I am going to do my best to give you an idea of what life has been like lately. So here it goes….

-We arrived to our temporary location late Tuesday night so we had no clue what our surroundings looked like. The next morning we walked out to find that we were surrounded by beautiful things. You looked one direction and saw mountains, you looked the other direction and saw the ocean. It doesn’t get much better than that! We were there, at what they call the North campus for four days. Now we are living at the main campus where we still have a view of the ocean and mountains. 🙂

-They have cold water for us here most of the time. This is a big deal y’all. Praise the Lord!! There is something amazing about having cold water to drink when you are really hot. Which brings up my next thing…

-It is really really hot here. We sweat a whole lot. We have decided it is hotter here than in the DR. But on the bright side, it makes the cold shower that much better!

-This week we are leading VBS in the mornings And I love it! There is nothing better than having little kids hanging on you and climbing on you (literally) and getting to hug them and love on them. This morning I had a little boy fall asleep laying on my lap, drooling all over my skirt. I couldn’t help but smile. I also have a buddy who I met yesterday, he showed up this morning greeting me with a huge hug, the biggest smile, and rubber band ring things that he had made for me. I will post pictures in my next blog post! I’m not sure who was more excited to see the other, me or him! I can’t explain how happy my heart is being surrounded by so many cute kiddos! In the afternoons we have been doing random work projects!

-We are being spoiled here in a lot of ways, and the food is included in that. For meals we’ve been eating things like cereal, eggs, pineapple, bananas, french toast, mashed potatoes, corn, chicken, lots of tuna salad, pb&j, and such. (Not all at once of course!) And yes, there is coffee every morning which has been amazing. The other day they even had hazelnut coffee creamer which is my favorite! Oh happy day!

-We went to church on Sunday and I loved it! It was my first time going to church since being on the Race, too! We had “church” every morning in the DR but it was on our own so it was exciting to be able to go experience church in a different culture. There was one specific moment while we were singing that really made my heart smile. We were singing the song “Holy is the Lord”. The part when the lyrics say, “And together we sing, Holy is The Lord God Almighty, the earth is filled with His glory”…

To have hundreds of people singing those words in both English and Creole at the same time took my breath away. There we were, all different people, from different nations, speaking different languages, all with different stories, but praising the same Jesus. Everyone, proclaiming His holiness…it was a really beautiful moment. I imagine that is a glimpse of what heaven is like!

To sum it up, I am truly enjoying it here. I’m loving it!! Month two is off to an amazing start!

Before I close this out I wanted to take the time to ask if you have any questions for me. So many of you have told me you will be following my journey (and I’m so glad that you are!) and I want to share it with you the best that I can. So I’m curious, what would you like to know about? What questions do you have, if any? It can be about anything! Comment below, email or message me!

As I said earlier, I won’t really have internet this month but I promise I will write a blog answering as many questions as I can whenever I am able to!

Thanks for all the love and prayers! Have a beautiful day!

Much love,
Kaci
