“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men…”
Colossians 3:23
So it finally happened…. It’s sad to admit but I knew it would come…. I had my first major diva moment (no offense ladies) on the World Race. You see this month our team has done a ton of different things, most of which are new and often times FUNKY….and not the good James Brown kinda funky, more so the nasty, diaper-filled- with-rotten-Indian-food FUNKY! Here are some of the things that I have done this month:
Pressure washed sidewalks, filled in pot holes, swept floors, torn down tropical brush, painted doors, moved furniture, picked cigarette butts out of flower beds, fed pigs and cows, and made pig food…
We’ll stop with that last one. Made PIG food. That was the one that brought about my “moment.” You see pigs will eat nearly anything. Rotten tomatoes , lettuce, melons, bread, milk…ANYTHING! I know this because I have helped make their food for the past several weeks. The COC has been blessed to build relationships with several food banks and food distribution companies. Because of this they are able to obtain a TON of free food that has recently expired and cannot be sold. The food banks and distribution companies love the fact that that COC takes the expired food of their hands, and the COC loves the fact that they get free pig food! It’s a win-win situation.

Where I fit into the equation was as an official opener/sorter of every type of imaginable rotten food. Basically a truck loaded with rotten, stinky fruits and veggies and spoiled milk would come every Tuesday and Friday and we would go to work. It never helped that it was often extremely hot outside, which only made the aroma that much stronger! I remember one particular hot day where my teammate Mark and I were pouring crate after crate after chunky, rancid milk into bins. Both of us were on the brink of puking. It was hot. It was smelly….and to be honest I just plain didn’t feel like being there. I’d like to say that I instantly had a change of attitude and stayed focused on serving the Lord through my actions, but this wasn’t the case. It took me a while to step outside of myself and realize that service isn’t always what we expect. Sometimes when serving others, we’ll have to do things that just plain well….STINK! Despite, this though we have to remember that it is always the Lord we are serving and because of this, we should work at it with all our heart, because we are working for the Lord! I’m sure that in the upcoming months I will be doing many more crazy (and FUNKY) jobs. I’m glad to say that I got my first “World Race” dirty job under my belt!
