Hello!
Just
a quick update to let everyone know how we are doing this month; the route we
were planning to take again was changed. Instead of going to Guatemala we are
now in San Vicente, El Salvador. San Vicente is smokin’ hot, and to make matters worse very
humid. So needless to say we sweat all day long! Fortunately the rainy season is
approaching so the days seem to be getting somewhat cooler, which is by the way good news for my laundry.
Again we are in the
city doing similar ministry as we did last month in Nicaragua. The church we
are working at is great, the contacts are around the same age as us so that is
nice, and it is awesome as they are super passionate for the Lord. We have been able to do a variety
of things such as leading worship and sharing testimony’s, we have also found
ourselves doing a number of dramas this month for seniors, children at schools,
and at different churches as well. We got the opportunity to go to a brothel
(for ministry purposes only haha), and also to do street evangelism. While it
is generally hard doing that sort of thing because of the language barrier, God
has been awesome as he has brought a number of people our way who speak
English, and the locals who do speak English often want to try it out on you. So
as a result we’ve been able to have some real good conversations with people.
I’ll also mention that there are
two Canadian families from Okotoks, who are working as missionaries in a rural
community just outside of town. The two men have taught a number of locals how
to put together small houses, made of steel framing and metal siding, they can
put up about one a day. (minus the concrete floor) The pastor at the local
church is in charge of who gets a house, usually the most needy first, with the
ultimate goal being a house for every family in the community. Everything comes
already pre-cut, so once you know what to do they go up pretty quick. Each
house costs around $3000, and are sponsored through the evangelical missions organization
they are working through, and also donations from businesses back home. It has
been cool to see how God is using them, the doors that have been opened because
of their work, and how loved they are by all the people throughout the
community.
God has brought us here to El
Salvador for a reason, and although the people here are generally not as hungry
for God as where we were last month, God is still doing great things within the
church we are working with in using them to reach out to the community. Pray for our team as a whole as some people
are experiencing a spiritual heaviness, that God will use us regardless of what
ministry looks like, and also that we would be able to finish of our time in
Latin America strong. At the end of the month we are heading over to Thailand, so
pray that we would not be looking to far ahead at what’s to come, but that we
would be present for the people here in El Salvador.
