
The last time I saw Hugh he was working at Krystal. The job was a blessing, but it was too far from home and every paycheck was devoured by cab fare. So he left, and now he can’t find a job. But he’s confident that the Lord’s got a plan. Hugh keeps his chin up and eyes on the Lord. Life knocks him around sometimes, but his faith never fails.
It’s a bright, sunny Saturday. Hugh and I sit outside after eating pancakes and bacon. I want to know more about his unwavering faith.
“Tell me about your relationship with Christ.”
“He’s first in my life. I put Him first everyday,” he answers.
“Tell me a little bit about how Jesus saved you.”
“In 1989, I rededicated my life to the Lord at Mount Paran Church of God and received the Holy Spirit.”
“And has it been easy since then?”
“Life as a Christian is never easy,” he laughs. “You know, we go through trials and tribulations. Being a Christian is not a bed of roses.”
Hugh elaborates. Even as a believer, he’s struggled with alcoholism. For a time, he fell into a lifestyle of heavy drinking.
“I knew it was wrong,” he explains, “But the Lord delivered me about seven years ago.”
